La’Porsha Renae impressed the judges with her adorable baby and powerful voice on Thursday’s “American Idol,” during part two of the season 15 premiere. Watch below!
Before going in front of the panel, Renae bonded with “American Idol” winner Kris Allen in Little Rock, Arkansas over their love of music and devotion to their respective kids. Renae, a survivor of domestic abuse, went into her audition holding her baby girl, whose adorableness captivated the judges. The contestant revealed that her little one likes to sing with her mama sometimes, but she passed off the 7-month-old to an excited Jennifer Lopez so she could do her try-out solo.
Renae then sang “Creep,” turning the Radiohead classic into a soulful R&B ballad. Keith Urban actually applauded afterward, telling the 22-year-old sales call representative that he “loved it,” and appreciated her giving a “fresh take” on the popular song. Harry Connick, Jr. said he “loved it, too,” and called Renae an “assassin with runs.”
“You set out to do something very specific, and you destroyed it,” he told her. Lopez then gave Renae’s daughter the golden ticket to Hollywood, and the infant lit up like somehow she knew what was going on. The original “American Idol” Kelly Clarkson even tweeted after it aired, “Damn this girl can sing and I was totally crying because her little baby girl is so precious! That little smile :).” Check out the full video below!
