Olivia Rox, 16, brought unbelievable emotion and enthusiasm to her audition on part two of the “American Idol” season 15 premiere on Thursday. Check out the video below!
The aspiring star shared that she comes from a “family of entertainers,” and have had her parents support since she was “little.” Trying out in San Francisco, the teen said she’s watched “Idol” since she was a “whippersnapper,” and was just in awe to be in front of the judges. “You guys look real,” she quipped, adding, “I’ve literally watched this my entire life.”
Thankfully, she was able to temper her excitement when it came time to perform. Rox sat a piano and did a bluesy, powerful cover of Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man.” Harry Connick, Jr. called her an “extraordinarily talented kid” afterward, and further noted that she was “refreshing.”
Rox even offered to do a second performance with her guitar, but Jennifer Lopez told her, “I don’t need to hear anything else.” The superstar went on, “I think you’re extremely talented, and somebody who will add a lot to this competition.” Keith Urban also used the word “talented,” and also deemed Rox’s voice “really unique.”
Rox also praised the inaugural “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson at the start of her audition, leading the singer to tweet afterward, “Olivia, we have got to meet! So flattered that such a talented girl likes anything I’ve ever done :)” Watch below!
