Paxton Ingram was the very first to audition on the season 10 premiere of “The Voice” on Monday. Watch below!
The aspiring star spent a while working as backup dancer for superstars like Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears. “Seeing all the artists singing and all the love they were receiving, I wanted that and realized that was the dream,” Ingram admitted. Now he wanted to use the NBC competition to make it happen, noting, “‘The Voice’ is the best platform a singer can be on today.”
Right after he started singing Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own,” Blake Shelton exclaimed, “Wow, that’s good!” He was the first to hit his button, with Adam Levine and Pharrell joining in. Shelton told Ingram afterward, “I don’t know that I’ve ever recognized true greatness so quickly.”
Pharrell confessed he was “kind of at a loss for words,” prompting Levine to say, “I’m not at a loss of words. I think that you, vocally, are brilliant… I am so moved by what you did up here today.” It seemed likely one of those two guys would win Ingram over, especially as he said in the pre-taped package that he was a fan of Pharrell and Michael Jackson was his biggest influence.
So you can imagine everyone’s shock when Ingram chose Shelton to be his coach. Christina Aguilera even exclaimed, “What?!” Shelton told the camera after, “There’s no one more surprised that Paxton chose me than me… That guy’s somebody to watch for the rest of the season.” Check out the full video below!
