La’Porsha Renae had two more amazing turns on the “American Idol” stage with her Top 4 performances on Thursday. Check out the videos below!
For her first performance, Renae was mentored by Steven Van Zandt for the round’s “Classic Rock” category. The season 15 frontrunner selected Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive.” Despite nerves about taking on a different genre, and Scott Borchetta even questioning the song choice, Renae received positive feedback from Van Zandt.
And come show time, the judges had nothing but praise for the performance. “Killer, baby,”‘ exclaimed Keith Urban. “I love when you guys take a song we wouldn’t normally think you’d do.”
Jennifer Lopez told Renae, “It’s funny that of all the rock songs, you picked that one… But your voice is so undeniable, you could sing the phone book and it wouldn’t matter.” Harry Connick, Jr. even compared the aspiring star to Tina Turner, noting, “Your ability as a singer transcends every genre.”
In the second round, Sia was the guest mentor, which was particularly fitting for Renae since she received raves for performing “Diamonds” earlier this season. This time, the aspiring star went with “Elastic Heart.” Lopez told her, “You have grown to another place.” Urban added that it was like “being at an awards show and seeing you perform your nominated song.”
