Larry Wilmore White House Correspondents’ Dinner Video: Watch Full WHCD Speech!

Larry Wilmore poked fun at President Obama, Donald Trump, and Hollywood during his speech at the 2016 White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday. Watch below!

The night’s host kicked off his speech, which followed remarks from Obama, by self-deprecatingly mocking the smattering of applause he received. Wilmore then called it “Negro Night,” or as Fox News would spin it, “Two thugs interrupt elegant dinner in D.C.” And he joked that next year, it’ll be a party thrown by Donald Trump and paid for by Mexico.

“I have to admit, it’s not easy to follow the President,” Wilmore went on. “President’s got some jokes, man! Stay in your lane! You don’t see me going around President-ing all the time.” He then joked about Obama’s age, saying, “Your hair is so white, it tried to punch me at a Trump rally. President’s hair is so white, it keeps saying ‘all lives matter.’”

Many of the jokes didn’t seem to land, including, “Will Smith is here from the upcoming movie Suicide Squad. Not to be confused with the upcoming Jeb Bush documentary, Suicide Watch.” After that, Wilmore ad-libbed, “Groans are good.” He went on to say how Fox News tried to paint Beyonce as anti-cop, saying, “At the most, she’s anti-pants. I think Fox News secretly likes Beyonce. They renamed ‘Kelly Files’ ‘Becky With The Good Hair.’”

A Bill Cosby joke also got some groans, and there was silence when Wilmore joked that Hillary Clinton said David Bowie and Prince were both her “favorite singer.” “You guys are tough, man,” he conceded. There were some laughs, though, for jokes about Bernie Sanders, who was in the audience. Of Clinton being confronted by a Black Lives Matter protester earlier this year, Wilmore cracked, “I haven’t seen a blonde person that upset about being blindsided by a black man since Kelly Ripa.”

And Smith was shown on camera laughing at a joke about Trump referring to his genitalia as “President Johnson.” Wilmore later cracked, “Trump looks like the rich dad in every episode of ‘Law & Order,” where the frat kid strangles the hooker.” He then said he predicted Trump’s rise because he watches movies: “Every time there’s a black president, something always comes to destroy the Earth.”

Ted Cruz may have gotten it worse, with Wilmore saying how everyone hates him: “Even O.J. Simpson said that guy’s hard to like.” That was followed by repeated comments about the candidate coming off like the Zodiac killer. Circling backing to Obama, Wilmore said, “I don’t know when we’re getting a black president again. I don’t even know when they’ll let Morgan Freeman be president in a movie again.”

He went on to add in a serious tone, “When it’s all said and done, Mr. President, we’re really going to miss… Michelle.” Wilmore, though, did seriously praise Obama for showing that a “black man can lead the entire free world,” leading to heavy applause. He then concluded, “So Mr. President, I’m going to keep it 100. Yo, Barry, you did it my, n*gger!” Obama, for the record, did not appear bothered by the N-word.

Wilmore is currently best known as the host of “The Nightly Show,” which premiered in early 2015, succeeding “The Colbert Report.” Previously, he was a correspondent for “The Daily Show” during Jon Stewart’s tenure, and made guest appearances on TV shows like “How I Met Your Mother” and “Happy Endings.” He started his career as a writer, and went on to join the staffs of “In Living Color,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “The Bernie Mac Show,” and “The Office.” He was also an executive producer on “Black-ish.”

As host of this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, he follows such fellow comedians as Cecily Strong (2015), Joel McHale (2014), Conan O’Brien (2013), Jimmy Kimmel (2012), Seth Meyers (2011) and Jay Leno (2010). Check out full video of Wilmore’s speech below.
